MODEL RM5000

Turn on the meter. It Auto-calibrates to 3 points of 90% and is now ready to use. Do not turn the unit off until you are finished testing .

Separate the two halves and flip
the back box around so the hole and suction cups are visible.

Roll down the window half way and place the two units above the glass. Squeeze the tops of the boxes together to form a gap at the bottom. Slide it over the window and release.

The LCD readout will display the amount of light reflected. Remember to turn off after use.
Are performed exactly the same way as in the roll down test.

Place the rear unit (Box B) behind the glass to test and suction cup in place. Be careful that the hole in the meter does not line up with defroster lines.

On the outside of the window, place the front box over the rear box. You will feel the magnets pull the units together. Once connected, you can read the light reflected on the LCD display. Remember to turn off after use.
The Tint Reflectometer Model RM5000 Measures the amount of light reflected from auto glass. The digital display shows the percentage of visible light reflected as compared to 100%. A 100% reading would indicate that all light is reflected, which does not happen in real life. The best laboratory grade mirror is about 94%. A clear pane of glass reflects some light from each surface and results in a reading of 8%. Because car windows have some tint in them from the factory, reflectance readings will differ when read from the outside of the car in, versus the inside out. Be sure to use what ever is specified in your state laws.
Every time the RM5000 is turned on it auto calibrates against a mirror standard. Please keep the mirror clean to ensure reliable readings. Because of this auto calibration feature, the meter is immune to environmental effects or changing conditions. Unlike other meters which are calibrated in factory conditions, and then those conditions change once the meter leaves the factory. Auto calibration also eliminates errors that can be induced from improper field recalibration.

A 9-volt alkaline battery must be installed in the front unit. No battery is required for the rear unit.
Each meter is equipped with 2 test standards with light reflectance values printed on them. The values are accurate to plus or minus one percentage point. To verify the Tint Reflectometer is working properly and within specifications, take a reading before you begin to use the meter on a car. The meter should display a reading of not more than plus or minus 3% points of the value printed on the standard.
